OVERVIEW

The world of The Street Had No Name is held together by people and institutions whose histories stretch across generations.

The Rom, the Keepers, the Church and the Order each carry part of a responsibility few outsiders know exists. Their purposes differ, their loyalties sometimes collide, yet all are bound by something far older than themselves.

The Order strives for control. Those that know will do what every they can to stop them.

The Rom

The Rom are travellers by tradition, bound by family, custom and obligations that reach across countries and generations.

Their history is carried through people rather than institutions, with knowledge passed quietly from one generation to the next. Some know more of the hidden world than others and recognise signs most would overlook.

For Pieter Vicarel, the Rom become more than companions along the road. They become part of his understanding of a much larger world.

The Keeping

The Keeping is not an organisation in the usual sense. It is a duty carried across generations by Keepers, Initiators and those trusted to help them.

Their purpose is simple, though the burden rarely is. They protect the Scroll, preserve what is known of its history and stand against those who would possess it.

Some inherit the responsibility. Others encounter it unexpectedly and discover that walking away is no longer quite so easy.

The Church

The Church has known of the hidden struggle for centuries, though few within it understand the whole story.

Its involvement has shifted with time, shaped by individuals prepared to act when circumstances demanded it. Priests, monks and senior clergy have sheltered people, guarded knowledge and quietly assisted the Keeping.

Yet the Church is not simply an ally. It has its own history, its own interests and secrets it has chosen to keep.

The Order

The Order has endured for countless generations, passing its purpose from one age to the next while quietly adapting to the world around it.

Its members believe the Scroll belongs in their hands and that its protection demands discipline, patience and, when necessary, sacrifice. Yet the Order is not without conscience or doubt.

Behind its secrecy are families, old loyalties and people who have inherited a struggle they did not begin.

Somewhere

SOMEWHERE exists in its own time, separated from our world by the Fabric but never entirely beyond its reach.

Mountain ranges, great forests and wastelands surround cities whose peoples have their own histories, rivalries and ambitions. At its centre lies the Inner Set, where power has long gathered around the Scroll and those who seek to control it.

Yet beyond its walls, older forces endure and change is already beginning.
